Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) School Resource Officer (SRO) Cpl. Samantha Terrazas has taken on the “Read Across America” Challenge. Cpl. Terrazas is challenging her fellow SRO’s as well as other professionals to get out and read to the youth. A huge part of the School Resource Officer Triad is to be a mentor and teacher to the students they interact with.

The “Read Across America” Challenge has allowed Cpl. Terrazas to enter the classroom in not only a Law Enforcement role, but as a mentor and resource to students creating a positive relationship all around.

The goal of “Read Across America” is for adults of all professions to interact and read aloud to children of all ages to allow them to hear about the different experiences and perspectives in the world through diverse books that are available to them. Many of the books are available for anyone to checkout and read at Los Alamos Public Library.
