Nine residents filed for elected office Tuesday at the Los Alamos County Municipal Building.
Five Democrats, one Republican and three Libertarians threw their hats in the ring for seats in the New Mexico House of Representatives, Los Alamos County Council and County Clerk.
New Mexico House District 43 (one seat):
- Incumbent Rep. Christine Chandler, Democrat
- Chris Luchini, Libertarian
- Phillip Mach, Libertarian
Los Alamos County Council (three seats:
- Incumbent Denise Derkacs, Democrat
- Incumbent David Reagor, Republican
- Beverly Neal Clinton, Democrat
- Ryn Herrmann, Democrat
- James Wernicke, Libertarian
Los Alamos County Clerk (one position)
- Michael Redondo, Democrat
No one filed for the Dist. 4 seat on the Public Education Commission or for District Attorney in Dist. 1.
The Los Alamos County Clerk Naomi Maestas works closely with the Secretary of State to conduct all federal, state, county and local elections in compliance with federal, state and local charter. The office maintains election and voter registration records and voting systems and delivers voter outreach to increase voter awareness in the community.

- Tuesday, March 19: County Clerk to notify candidates of qualification for appearance on ballot NMSA 1-8-26 (D)
- Tuesday, March 19: Write-in Candidate Filing Day (United States Rep, Members of the Legislature, District Judges, District Attorneys, PEC, Magistrate) – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 1000 Central Ave. NMSA 1-8-36.1(C)
- Tuesday, March 22: Deadline to challenge nominating petitions that were filed on March 12 NMSA 1-8-35
- Tuesday, April 2: Last Day Candidates can withdraw from the Primary Election NMSA 1-8-44
- Friday, April 5: Ballots certified by the County Clerk and sent to the printer NMSA 1-10-4
- Tuesday, April 9: Ballots certified by the County Clerk and sent to the printer NMSA 1-10-4
- Saturday, April 20: TENTATIVE – Poll Worker Training – Council Chambers (Time TBD) NMSA 1-2-17
- Tuesday, April 24: TENTATIVE – Machine Certification -continued, if needed
- Tuesday, May 7: Voter Registration Closes On-line and by Mail NMSA 1-4-8
- Tuesday, May 7: In-Person Same Day Voter Registration at Vote Centers during Voting Days/Hours through Election Day NMSA 1-4-5.7
- Tuesday, May 7 thru Friday, May 17: Early Voting – Los Alamos County Municipal Building NMSA 1-6-5.7
- Saturday, May 18 through Saturday, June 1: Early Voting – Council Chambers & WR Town Hall
Monday thru Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Sundays NMSA 1-6-5.7 - Tuesday, May 21: Last Day to apply for an Absentee Ballot by Mail NMSA 1-6-5 and NMSA 1-6B-6
- Wednesday, May 22: Last day for the County Clerk to mail an absentee ballot to voters NMSA 1-6-5(F)
- Saturday, June 1: All Absentee/Early Voting ends at both locations at 6:00 p.m. NMSA 1-6-5.7(A)(4)
- Tuesday, June 4: Election Day – Polls Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Absentee Ballots accepted until 7 p.m. NMSA 1-8-11 and NMSA 1-12-1
- Monday, June 10: Voter Registration re-opens NMSA 1-4-8 (D)
- Wednesday, June 12: TENTATIVE Canvass @ 1 p.m., Municipal Building NMSA 1-1
