Secretary Of State: New Absentee Ballot Tracking System

Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver

STATE News:

SANTA FE — With the absentee ballot request deadline for the Primary Election upcoming Tuesday, May 21, 2024, Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver Wednesday has announced the launch of a new absentee ballot tracking system that gives detailed information to voters about the delivery and return status of their absentee ballot.

“With our new ballot tracking system, we’ve improved upon our existing system by now offering more information to voters about where exactly their absentee ballot is in the mailing process, and giving voters the ability to sign up for email or text notifications so they always know the status of their mailed ballot,” Secretary Toulouse Oliver said.

Any qualified New Mexico voter can vote using an absentee ballot. The deadline to request an absentee ballot for the June 4, 2024 Primary Election is Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

The new system – known as Ballot Scout – is easy to use:

  • From NMVOTE.ORG the voter will request their absentee ballot after confirming their identity by entering their New Mexico driver’s license or state ID number, the last four digits of their Social Security number, and their date of birth
  • The voter will then verify their registration information, select their ballot delivery method, and confirm the submission of their absentee ballot application request
  • The voter will then be able to track the status of their ballot and sign up to receive email/text notifications

Absentee ballots must be returned no later than 7 p.m., on Election Day, June 4, 2024 and can be mailed back to your County Clerk’s office or dropped off at any polling location or secure ballot drop box in your county.

If mailing the absentee ballot back to your County Clerk, we suggest mailing it 7-10 days prior to Election Day to ensure it is received before the deadline.
