LAHS Alumni Association News:

This year the Los Alamos Alumni Scholarship has been awarded to Los Alamos High School (LAHS)  graduating senior Marissa Meierdierks. She is the daughter of Carissa Meierdierks Wall.

Meierdierks will be attending Eastern New Mexico University in the fall, where she plans to start with studying Chemistry/Biochemistry. Later her plans include adding Math and Management courses. She has not yet decided her career path but is interested in Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) fields.

Meierdierks kept busy during her high school years by planning, organizing and being involved in food drives, community events and tutoring both high school and middle school students. She completed more than 180 hours of community service while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. During her junior year, she was inducted into both the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math National Honor Society. Meierdierks said she wouldn’t have been able to do it all without the support of her friends and family.

She was active in LAHS Student Council, NJROTC, DECA, LAECCA and Natural Helpers along with her personal volunteer work with Los Alamos Teen Court and various church events. Meierdierks also started her ongoing internship with LANL during the summer of 2023, in addition to babysitting, cleaning houses, and pet sitting. Meierdierks did all of this while taking AP classes, Honors classes and college courses. She took EMT courses at UNM-Los Alamos leading to her obtaining EMT Certification, which will qualify her to work as an EMT while attending college.

When asked what has meant the most to her during her high school years, Meierdierks replied that there were so many terrific experiences. She connected with wonderful people during fundraisers, participating in school events, and offering community service. She added that being a part of the Navy Junior ROTC program has made all the difference in who she is today, because it created such positive connections and experiences with the instructors and other cadets.

The Los Alamos Alumni Scholarship Committee is so proud of Marissa and wishes her the most exciting college experience and beyond!
