Construction crews are scheduled to complete the final activity on improvements to N.M. 4 and East Jemez Road by installing OGFC (open-graded friction course) to both roadways for about three days, Tuesday, May 28 through Thursday, May 30, 2024.
OGFC is a thin, permeable layer of asphalt pavement that creates friction on the roadway to reduce vehicle slipping and/or sliding during wet weather.
During this work, there will be various lane closures in the project area. Motorists are reminded to use extra caution in the construction zone, slow down, expect delays and allow extra time to reach their destinations in the morning and evening.
About this NMDOT Project:
This project was funded by the U.S Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) as part of a settlement agreement with the State of New Mexico and was constructed in cooperation with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT). The intent of the project is to reduce commute times for workers of Los Alamos National Laboratory, particularly those returning home in the evening hours, as well as improve safety and drainage in the area. The project included new roadway construction of N.M. 4 and East Jemez Road, improvements to storm drainage, new curb and gutter, new retaining walls, ADA ramps, intersection warning flashers, a new traffic signal, new lighting and roadway signing and striping.
