COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos County Parks Division regrets to inform the public that the opening of the highly anticipated Piñon Splash Pad, initially scheduled for May 24, has been delayed.
This decision comes after discovering the facility’s emergency call box is not operating, a safety feature mandated by the state of New Mexico.
Despite initial announcements last week that the Splash Pad would open in time for the Memorial Day weekend, the Parks Division discovered that the emergency call box had been compromised due to some construction activity in the area. The State of New Mexico requires that the facility have a fully operational emergency call box that allows individuals to immediately notify 9-1-1 of emergencies with the push of a button.
In conjunction with a contractor, the Parks Division team is investigating what and where the issue is so that they may initiate repairs as soon as possible.
“We deeply apologize to those who had planned to visit the Splash Pad this weekend,” Parks Superintendent Wendy Parker said. “Safety is a top priority for us, and we are working diligently to resolve this issue. We thank everyone for their patience.”
The Parks Division will announce the new opening date through a press release once more information is known.
