N3B News:

Newport News Nuclear BWXT Los Alamos (N3B) has announced the opening of a new occupational medicine clinic dedicated to serving employees working on the Los Alamos legacy cleanup contract.

Operated by HealthWorks Medical, the clinic is in the Los Alamos Medical Center. It officially opened its doors to N3B and subcontractor employees May 28. This strategic move brings occupational health services conveniently closer to workers, who previously had to go out of town for many of the services.

“One of our cornerstones is that our programs are protective of human health and the environment,” said N3B Environment, Safety, Health and Quality Program Manager Robert Edwards. “This clinic represents a major milestone in our ability to ensure the health and well-being of our employees.”

The new clinic will provide a range of services tailored to meet the specific needs of employees working on the cleanup project, including:

  • Annual physicals;
  • Medical surveillance;
  • Return to work assessments;
  • Fitness for duty evaluations;
  • Drug testing;
  • Pre-employment physical examinations; and
  • Acute (non-work related) injury care.

In celebration of the opening, the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today, with leadership and employees from the Department of Energy Environmental Management Los Alamos Field Office’s (EM-LA), N3B and HealthWorks Medical in attendance.

HealthWorks Medical, a nationwide primary care and occupational medicine provider based in Paducah, Ky., has a vision to transform workplace healthcare. The company partners with employers of all sizes, providing individualized care clinics.

“We are excited to bring our expertise and services to N3B,” said Dr. Kyle Turnbo, CEO and medical director at HealthWorks Medical. “Our goal is to provide high-quality healthcare that supports the health and productivity of the workforce.”
