Abiquiu Inn will showcase the artwork of Buster Griggs in the Main Salon of Café Abiquiu during the month of June. The artwork of Robert Nicolais will be on display in the Upstairs Gallery at Abiquiu Inn for the months of June and July.
Buster Griggs loves the West. His paintings and drawings honor the history and grandeur of the mountains and plains, the Native Americans whose ancestors called it their home and the pioneer families and the cowboys who explored and settled in this beautiful country. The focal point of several of his paintings is a single cowboy simply conducting “cowboy” work. The artist enjoys rich, earthy hues that remain true to nature and the time of day. He has a knack of capturing the moment in his subject’s life and in the process of bringing it to canvas or paper one feels the empathy and emotion in his work. Buster Griggs’ art can be found in both private and public collections in the United States and Canada. He resides in both Pagosa Springs, Colo. and Anthem, Ariz. with his wife Karen.
Robert Nicolais is deeply connected to Northern New Mexico having spent a great deal of time here. He worked on a UMM archeological dig at Sapawe Pueblo near El Rito in 1964, and eventually called it his home. His artwork, in many mediums including painting, watercolors, sculpture, woodworking and weaving which are all created to inspire people to think about the natural world. He draws inspiration from Cezanne, O’Keeffe, and the Barbizon painters. Robert Nicolais’ paintings are figurative. His ideas shift, perceptions change, and he creates based on knowing that there is a different way of looking at things. He has always liked landscapes and the outdoors, which is reflected in his art. He lives between El Rito and Los Angeles, Calif.
Abiquiu Inn is a 30-room boutique hotel in Abiquiu under the general management of Raelynn LaRue. The restaurant, Café Abiquiu, is under the leadership of Executive Chef Rey Melton. Abiquiu Inn supports and showcases artists and their work in their gallery, dining room, The Shop at Abiquiu Inn and throughout the property.
