Zozobra To Host Auditions To Sing National Anthem

ZOZOBRA News:

The Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe invites community members to audition to be part of the historic, once-in-a-century Burning of Zozobra.

This is a chance to perform before a live crowd of 65,000 Zozobra fans in person and a global television and webcast audience of hundreds of thousands for the 100th Annual Burning of Zozobra Friday, Aug. 30, 2024 at Fort Marcy Park in Santa Fe.

Love hitting those high notes? A meaningful part of this annual tradition is the singing of the National Anthem, and auditions are open to performers of all ages and all genres. The winner will be welcomed to perform the National Anthem at the Burning of Zozobra Friday, Aug. 30, 2024.

In-person auditions will be held 1- 4 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Scottish Rite Center, the big pink building located at 463 Paseo de Peralta in Santa Fe. Tryouts will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Please enter at the left (west) front entrance on the building below the main entrance stairs. Park in the lot behind the building.

The person chosen as the National Anthem Singer will be required to attend the following mandatory rehearsals and the main event, the 100th Burning of Zozobra Friday, Aug. 30, 2024:

  • Sat., Aug. 17, 2024, 11 a.m. at Fort Marcy Park;
  • Sat., Aug. 24, 2024, 11 a.m. at Fort Marcy Park;
  • Aug. 28, 2024, 5-10 p.m. at Fort Marcy Park; and
  • Aug. 30, 2024, The 100th Burning of Zozobra at Fort Marcy Park, 7 p.m. until the event concludes.

A first runner-up will be selected as an alternate and will be required to attend both the rehearsals and the event in case the National Anthem Singer should be unable to perform.

In addition, the first runner-up will sing the National Anthem at the 2024-25 New Year’s Eve event on the Santa Fe Plaza, Dec. 31, 2024. The second runner up will sing the National Anthem at the City of Santa Fe 2025 Fourth of July celebration.

The Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe is the sole organizer of the 100th Burning of Will Shuster’s Zozobra, and over the years Zozobra has given back $2.5 million to help the children of local communities grow and thrive.
