N3B Donates $12,000 To LA Cares On 30th Anniversary

LA Cares held its 30th anniversay celebration Wednesday morning for volunteers and clients at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church. Officials from N3B presented LA Cares with a $12,000 donation in support of the non-profit organization and its work to provide food and other items to those in need.

LA Cares Board President Lyn Haval, accompanied by other board members accepted the donation from  N3B Manager and President Brad Smith and Vice President Jeff Stevens during the Wednesday morning celebration. 

“LA Cares is greatly appreciative of the continued support N3B has shown us and other organizations in the community throughout the years … we can do so much with their support,” Havel said.

LA Cares, dubbed Los Alamos’ Food Pantry, is an independent, 100% volunteer organization, supported solely through donations. LA Cares serves any needy person or family living in Los Alamos County.

Typical services offered are:

  • Food boxes;
  • Assistance with rent and/or utilities up to a set dollar amount every 12 months;
  • Referrals to other agencies; and
  • Networking with other service providers to better meet client needs.

LA Cares is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt corporation in New Mexico, which distributes food every second Friday of the month and the Thursday night preceding it, at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church at 2390 North Road. Distributions are 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday evening and 10:30 a.m. to noon  Friday. To receive food, clients must provide information in advance to LA Cares by the Sunday prior to the distribution week to ensure that enough products are available to all clients. A list of distribution dates is posted on the LA Care website at lacaresnm.org.​

​All clients receive a bag of non-perishable products. In addition, fresh produce, eggs, bread, meats and cheese are available. Personal hygiene items such as paper products, soaps, toothpaste, etc. are also available along with a limited amount of dog and cat food.

LA Cares has served the community since 1994. The next monthly food distribution date is Aug. 8-9 with registration required by Aug. 4.
