Water Line Break Repaired Along N.M. 4 Near White Rock

COUNTY News:

The water line along N.M. 4, just north of White Rock that broke this morning has been repaired and the pipeline will slowly be refilled overnight. This is done to purge any air entrapped in the line. Customers could potentially notice a drop in water pressure, but otherwise shouldn’t experience changes in water service.

Crews from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities worked on the break throughout the day.

The apparent cause for the break was a result of hydraulic hammering when one of the well pumps servicing the line momentarily lost power from the storms yesterday. The power glitch caused a drop in pressure in the line that created the hydraulic hammer when pressure returned to normal.

This section of pipe is older and is scheduled to be replaced in the future.
