Public Works Projects:

Note that the information below is based on a schedule provided by the contractors and may change due to weather or other delays. 

DP Road Phase II Reconstruction Project Update

TLC Plumbing & Utility work 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

 

Parking:

  • Parking will not be allowed south of DP Road outside of designated areas south of Ace Hardware and south of the Los Alamos Fire Training Academy.

Traffic Control:

  • Crews will continue two trenching operations on DP Road to install electrical conduit as well as water and gas. This week’s operations for water and gas trenches will be east from Crossfit Los Alamos towards LANL TA-21 gate. 
  • Operations on the electrical trench will continue east from the parking lot across from ACE Hardware. 
  • Follow all work zone signs and exercise caution; flaggers may direct traffic during certain construction events.
  • Access to businesses will be maintained; westbound traffic direction remains unchanged.

Rose Street Reconstruction Project

TLC Plumbing & Utility work 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday on Rose Street from Central Avenue  to Peach Street, including sections of Peach Street and Spruce Street.

Work Details:

  • The project is in the clean-up process.
  • The installation of concrete collars for utilities and pavement markings will be ongoing until August.

Urban Trail Phase I and II Project

Crews will work from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, with possible weekend work if needed.  

  • Construction of the Trail continues along the north side of Canyon Road between the Tennis Courts and Los Alamos Nature Center driveway.
  • The north shoulder on Canyon in this area is closed, with two lanes of traffic generally maintained. 
  • Flaggers will be used when lane closures are needed for construction vehicles access to the work areas.
  • Work to construct the boardwalk section of the trail will also continue in the wooded area by the Tennis Courts

Overlook Park Irrigation Work Continues

The trail section at Overlook Park between Spirio Soccer Field and Softball Field 3 is closed to all traffic, including pedestrians. This closure is necessary for work on interconnecting the irrigation system with the potable water system as a backup to the reclaimed water that is typically used to water the fields. This work is expected to last into October.

North Community crack sealing is postponed until mid-July

Dismuke Construction, under contract with Los Alamos County, has taken a pause on crack sealing due to monsoons in these North Community areas: Woodland, 35th, 36th, Alabama, Yucca, 48th, 47th, 45th Streets and Club Road. Work will resume mid-July.  

Road closure on the east end of Loma del Escolar at Barranca Rd Begins July 15

Starting at 7 a.m. Monday, July 15, crews will close the east end tof Loma de Escolar at Barranca Road to make safety improvements to existing ADA ramps before school starts. The west end of Loma de Escolar will be open to local traffic. Sidewalks along the north side of Barranca Rd and within the construction zone of Loma del Escolar will be closed to pedestrians. Access to residential properties will be maintained. This project will continue through Aug. 1. Work will end 5 p.m. daily.

Non-County Projects:

The following construction project is not funded by Los Alamos County. Updates are included to keep residents informed of potential traffic impacts. Questions should be directed to the parties identified below. Please obey all traffic devices and slowdown in work zones.

Lane Closure – Trinity Drive at 35th Street (Hill Apartments)

Pavilion Construction is working Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (and weekends as needed) to reconstruct the south side of Trinity Drive near the new 35th Street intersection as part of the 35th realignment project associated with the new Hill Apartments (work expected to continue into July).

  • Lane Closure: Eastbound right lane is closed. Traffic is temporarily shifted to the center lane.
  • Bike Lane Closure:Eastbound bike lane is closed; motorists and bicyclists are asked to share the road.
  • Pedestrian Access:Sidewalk closures are posted; pedestrians should follow signage and avoid the work zone.

Sidewalk Closure and Lane Shift on Rover Blvd.

The sidewalk on the southwest side of Rover Blvd at the Speedway Gas Station is closed to permit Kelly Cable NM LLC crews to work on existing cable infrastructure. In addition southbound traffic is shifted to the center lane. Sidewalk detours will be at the intersection of N.M. 4 at Rover Blvd and at the intersection of Rover Blvd and Meadow Lane.
