The Los Alamos County Environmental Sustainability Board (ESB) met on Aug, 15 and welcomed three new members, Jyl DeHaven, Jesse Derringer and me, Sue Barns, and reappointed Shannon Blair.
We heard an overview of a symposium of national and international researchers on the topic of “Confronting the Threats of Climate Change to Global Security.” The event brought together experts from various fields to discuss the challenges posed by climate change, explore potential solutions, and develop strategies to mitigate its impact.
The Board also heard a presentation by its Chair, Joseph Chandler, on “The Challenges of Energy, Climate and Sustainability: A look at Macro Trends and Data.”
We also appointed new liaisons to other boards and teams. Jesse Derringer will liaison to the Board of Public Utilities, Shannon Blair to Parks and Rec, Jyl DeHaven to Community Health Advisory Board and I will liaison to Los Alamos Sustainability Alliance
We also heard updates from our Sustainability Manager, Council Liaison Randall Ryti, and the Bailing Twine Working Group.
At next month’s meeting on Sept. 19, the Board will hear a presentation of the ESB’s Annual Report to County Council.
The community is invite to attend ESB meetings on the 3rd Thursday of each month in Council Chambers.
