ENMU Announces Region First Ever Drone Show As Part Of 90th Anniversary Homecoming Celebration

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) announced today the first-ever drone show in this region of the state as part of its 90th-anniversary homecoming celebration happening Sept. 30 through  Oct. 6.

ENMU has partnered with Open Sky Drone Light Shows out of Salt Lake City, Utah, to provide a first-of-its-kind drone show to Eastern New Mexico.

Open Sky Drone Light Shows will provide a sound and lights show with a music soundtrack and custom animations. The drones will launch at the conclusion of the bonfire and pep rally, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4  near the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.

“ENMU is looking forward to an outstanding fall semester for our campus and community! This 90th-anniversary homecoming celebration will be a week to remember, and I look forward to welcoming our alumni, family, and friends,” ENMU Chancellor James Johnston said. “We will be celebrating history and making history! ENMU will provide this drone show as part of its 90th-anniversary homecoming celebration, which includes week-long events highlighting the history of the University and the excitement surrounding the campus going forward into the next 90 years.”

Highlights of this year’s 90th Anniversary Homecoming events include:

  • 33rd Annual Songfest at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30 at the Campus Union (CUB) Ballroom;
  • Grand Opening of the Roosevelt Science Center at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the Roosevelt Science Center (RSC);
  • 8th Annual Powderpuff Tournament at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium (SLS);
  • ENMU’s First Annual Ring Ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at the Admin. Building (ADM);
  • A theatre production of “The Thanksgiving Play” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3-Saturday Oct. 5 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at the University Theatre Center (UTC);
  • Annual Bonfire and Pep Rally at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena (SLA) north parking lot;
  • First ever drone show in ENMU history at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 across from Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena (SLA);
  • ENMU Alumni Mix and Mingle featuring comedian, ENMU Greyhound, and “Breaking Bad” actor Steven Michael Quezada at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 at Enchantment Vineyards in Portales;
  • Annual Homecoming Parade at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 on US Highway 70 in Portales; and
  • Homecoming Football game vs. Central Washington at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium (SLS).
