The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) is warning the public of a recent scam targeting Los Alamos County residents.
LAPD has recently received several reports of scam emails threatening to release personal information or videos unless payment is made to an unknown scammer.
LAPD advises the public to take the following steps when receiving such an email:
- Label the email as spam or fraud;
- Delete the email; and
- Do not send any money, Bitcoin information, or communications to the scammer.
These scams are often designed to create fear and pressure the recipient into acting quickly. Staying calm and following these precautions can help protect against such fraudulent attempts.
