County Update On Bathtub Row Reconstruction Project

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Public Works Department, in partnership with Department of Public Utilities and under contract with TLC Plumbing & Utility, continues to work on the Bathtub Row Reconstruction Project.

The project limits are Bathtub Row from Central Avenue to Peach Street, Peach/Nectar Street to 15th Street and utility improvements along 15th Street.

The project is divided into two phases with Phase 1 to be completed prior to winter. Phase 2 will start after a winter suspension, with a project substantial completion date of August 2025.

Current Work Status: Phase 1 has begun with utility work ongoing and concrete work starting Monday Sept. 9.

Notice of Temporary Traffic Control Changes: To allow for safe working conditions and to expedite construction, a full closure of Bathtub Row will be in effect on Monday, September 9 from Central Avenue to Juniper Street. Traffic will be directed to use Oppenheimer Drive (Mesa Public Library driveway) to access the parking lot near the skate park. This segment of Oppenheimer drive is typically one-way but will allow for two-way traffic during this period. A flagger will be present to assist with operations during peak periods to assist with two-way traffic flow.

This closure will stay in position after hours without a flagger. Traffic will need to use caution and yield to oncoming traffic.  The Betty Ehart Senior Center upper parking lot will be closed during this time. Traffic control will be restored to its current construction closure on the weekends, with access to Bathtub Row through Peach/ Nectar. This temporary traffic control change is expected to last for the next two weeks. (See Map Below).

Hours of Construction:

TLC Plumbing & Utility will work 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with the addition of Fridays and weekends, as needed. Community can expect large equipment, and construction noise.

Traffic Impact:

To minimize disruption, the contractor will notify and coordinate with affected business owners and residents for certain construction logistics, utility upgrades, and traffic changes as work progresses. Services such as mail delivery, trash and recycling collection, school bus, transit, and emergency services will be maintained.

All questions, concerns or special access needs should be sent to the Public Works Department at lacpw@lacnm.us or call 505.662.8150. The County thanks residents and business owners in advance for their cooperation and patience.
