Alina Deshpande was recently awarded the University of New Mexico 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award. The award recognizes alumni who have contributed to the University’s reputation and success through their leadership, professional achievements, research, and community service. The award recognizes alumni who have demonstrated the values and mission in their personal, professional, and community endeavors.
Deshpande currently heads up the Biosciences Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory. She has worked at the Laboratory since 1993, first as a graduate student, and then as a Director funded post-doc, Staff Member, Group Leader, Deputy Division Leader, and Division Leader.
Deshpande is very active in the community and volunteer teaches Indian Classical Dance at The Family YMCA. She has been staging the “Dances of India” show on an annual basis since 2006. The show benefits various organizations and causes in the United States and abroad.
