Here is a question for you. What does the Nation Federation of the Blind (NFB) and LANL have in common? Strong, committed, and passionate leadership has guided the National Federation of the Blind since 1940. The same is true of LANL which started in 1943.
Today the NFB is the oldest and largest nationwide organization of blind people. Its headquarters is in Baltimore, but consists of affiliates, chapters and divisions in all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico.
The NFB Blind Belief Message is as follows:
The National Federation of the Blind advances the lives of its members and all blind people in the United States. We know that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future.
Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination, and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.
The National Federation of the Blind celebrates the organized blind movement during the month of October. Known as Blind Equality Achievement Month its members conduct a variety of outreach activities in their local communities.
To celebrate this event in Los Alamos the Fuller Lodge Art Center is hosting two local blind/Low vision artists, Gloria Sharp and Janet Montoya. Opening night reception is scheduled 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4. Art pieces will be on display the month of October.
Also, 12-4 p.m. Oct. 12, the Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op at 163 Central Park Square, is hosting a fundraiser for the At Large Chapter of the NFBNM. Come join the fun. We will have brisket and pulled pork on the menu along with a corn hole toss tournament, baked goods, cake walk, braille display, face painting, auction items, 50/50 raffle … Did I mention Karaoke? Possibly.
“Bring cash, come join the fun.”
