Los Alamos Co-Op Park News:
Local cooperative organizations are excited to invite the community to the Phase 2 Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the Los Alamos Co-Op Park, 3:30-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18.
Join us for an afternoon filled with music, games, food, swag, and a celebration of the cooperative spirit that unites our community. Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce Director Sandy Jones will conduct the ribbon cutting.
This event marks the completion of Phase 2 of the Co-Op Park, with exciting new features that enhance the park as a gem-of-a-venue for community gatherings.
Accomplishments include a new shade structure, enhanced lighting, and a state-of-the-art sound system, making the space ideal for musical performances, events, and social activities.
“The sound is great—really great!” said Matt Schmidt, CEO/President of Los Alamos Schools Credit Union. “We tested it during a Homecoming event for students, and it was impressive!”
Eric Baldonado, VP of Community Relations at Del Norte Credit Union, shared his excitement: “I can’t wait to see how the community will use this park.”
Del Norte Credit Union SVP of Marketing Kim Currie added, “This park is a shining example of how cooperatives work together, and how much the community supports those efforts.”
Many community members have donated to the park, and their names appear on the growing collection of leaves on the wall of the stage area.
Zia Credit Union President/CEO Dwayne Herrera said, “This event is a chance for everyone to come together, enjoy the new space, and celebrate the strong network of cooperatives in our region.”
In addition to the local credit unions, Little Forest Playschool, Inc. has helped to develop the gardens, and Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op and Los Alamos Cooperative Market have helped to develop the space, too. All six organizations will sponsor the Oct. 18 event.
The Los Alamos County Council proclaimed October 2022 to be Co-Operative Month, and this event demonstrates that cooperative efforts in Los Alamos are still thriving.
Los Alamos Co-Op Park is a joint venture made possible by local cooperative organizations, dedicated volunteers, and generous donors. Its development reflects the spirit of cooperation and community investment.
