Daily Postcard: Busy little birds, these Golden-Crowned Kinglets seldom stop moving. This frantic behavior makes them a prize for birders and photographers, especially to get a glimpse of the golden center stripe on their heads. When agitated, these birds can flare their crowns to reveal fiery red feathers hidden beneath this golden stripe. Golden-Crowned Kinglets are found in Los Alamos all year long. Listen for these birds’ high-pitched twittering as they forage in flocks, often high in evergreens. Local wildlife photographer Jonathan Dowell, Ph.D. took this photo.
