The State Canvassing Board met Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, and certified the results of the 2024 Primary Election. This is the final step in the multi-step post-election, canvassing and auditing process that ensures accuracy and election results.
The Los Alamos County (LAC) Clerk’s Office has completed the canvassing process and officially certified the results of the 2024 General Election, which was held Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024.
The Canvass Board convened 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, at the Los Alamos County Municipal Building. The Board included Phillip Gursky (Democrat), Rick Reiss (Republican), Lisa Hampton (Decline to State) and Greg White (Republican), along with County Clerk Naomi Maestas, Chief Deputy Clerk Tessa Jo Mascarenas, Elections Manager Victoria Martinez, Senior Deputy Clerk Danielle Miera and Deputy Clerk Michael Redondo. Cydney Romelius, Ken Thomas and Kimberly Thomas were also in attendance as members of the public.
During the meeting, the Board carefully reviewed the results from early voting, absentee ballots, and Election Day precincts, ensuring the accuracy of all data, including the hand-tallied results. After unanimous approval, the Board issued the certificate of canvass, which was sent to the New Mexico Secretary of State and other required recipients.

A total of 12,323 ballots were cast in the 2024 General Election, with 8,248 ballots submitted during early voting, 1,448 by mail, and 2,627 on Election Day.

Additionally, Clerk Maestas recognizes the exceptional service of election poll workers, who ensure a smooth and professional voting experience from Oct. 8 through Election Day. Special thanks go to Chief Deputy Clerk Tessa Jo Mascarenas, Elections Manager Victoria Martinez, Senior Deputy Clerk Danielle Miera, and Deputy Clerks Casey Salazar, Allison Collins, Michael Redondo and Marie Pruitt for their outstanding dedication to the success of the election.
Clerk Maestas also highlights the success of the Mobile Voting Unit, which expanded access to voters and played a crucial role in this election. She extends her gratitude to County staff across various departments for their collaborative efforts, ensuring the Mobile Voting Unit’s operations ran seamlessly and demonstrating the strength of teamwork in serving the community.
In accordance with NMSA 1-4-8 (D), voter registration has reopened and can be done by going to nmvote.org, by mail or in person at the County Clerk’s Office.
