Los Alamos County announces an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Review Course being offered 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4.
The purpose of this Lifeguarding Review Course is to ensure participants who possess an American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers maintain their skills and certifications. The cost to take this course is $180 per person.
Anyone holding the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification qualifies to take the Lifeguard Review instead of retaking the complete Lifeguard Class.
The course “tests out” the participants from all the practical and written exams they would take in the regular Lifeguarding class, and it only “reviews” materials instead of “teaching”.
As of 2012, the American Red Cross discontinued Lifeguard Challenges, so this is the quickest way a lifeguard can renew their certification.
Participants must be at least 15 years old to take the review course and participants must have an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification or certification that has been expired for less than 30 days.
There must be a minimum of six participants to hold the class.
Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a certification for Lifeguarding/First Aid/ CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers valid for 2 years.
