Daily Postcard: A raven soars across the sky above Valle Grande Jan. 15 at Valles Caldera National Preserve. Valles Caldera National Preserve is home to 196 species of birds. A recent Natural Resource Condition Assessment by the National Park Service determined that ponderosa pine forests are the preferred habitat for 35% of these bird species, which means that areas like History Grove, Banco Bonito and El Cajete Trail are fantastic places to go birdwatching in the park. New birders and avian aficionados are invited to attend ranger-guided birding programs every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Photo by Corey Lycopolus/NPS
