Arts & Nature/Mountain & Desert Meditations Open April 4

LAAC News:

The Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) will present a double opening 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 4, in the Fuller Lodge Art Center gallery at 2132 Central Ave. Light refreshments will be served. Patrons who bring their own reusable dishes or carpool will be given a 5 percent discount off exhibit purchases that day.

Art & Nature:

To have art without the environment is impossible, and to imagine the environment without art is equally difficult. LAAC invites the public to this eco-friendly exhibit featuring work from 34 New Mexican Artists, 16 of whom are from Los Alamos County. The exhibit will be displayed in the gallery through May 16.

This exhibit also commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC), which will be celebrated 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Earth Day Festival at the Los Alamos Nature Center, 2600 Canyon Road. PEEC is a 501c3 nonprofit, and will be hosting events all month long. For more information, visit peecnature.org/events.

Mountain & Desert Meditations:

This single artist show in the Fuller Lodge Art Center Portal gallery features tapestries and woven works from New Mexican artist Donna Foley. This exhibit will hang in the Portal gallery through May 3.

“I weave Contemporary Southwest Tapestry using natural dyes on a high luster wool or silk/wool blend. My tapestries are maps of my spiritual journey,” Foley said. “The topography is both an external terrain of the mountains, desert and wilderness where I live as well as an internal landscape of meditations and dreams. Many of my tapestries incorporate symbols such as petroglyphs, runes and I Ching hexagrams. ‘Found’ objects of stone, feathers & beads often find their way into my work.”

Support from Los Alamos MainStreet and Creative District helped to make these exhibits possible. For more information, visit https://www.losalamosmainstreet.com/.
