Founded in 1947, the Los Alamos Garden Club has held fundraisers for its Los Alamos High School Scholarship since 1976. This year will be no exception. The Spring Plant & Yard Sale is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 10, at 112 Longview Drive, White Rock. Plants, household items, clothing, and you name it, will be available for purchase.
The Los Alamos Garden Club, a member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., also created and has maintained the Los Alamos Memorial Rose Garden. It is the oldest community rose garden in New Mexico. Weekly from May through October club members prune, weed, and fertilize the roses. In recent years, efforts to curtail the effects of our urban deer herds on the Memorial Rose Garden have resulted in a commitment from Los Alamos County to construct a fence to protect the roses and the beauty of the area.
