SPORTS News:

Friday evening the Tigers and Brewers squared off in their final game of the Los Alamos County Little League baseball (Minors AA) season at Byers Field in White Rock. As Brewers’ starting pitcher Henry Rodarte took the mound to face Tigers’ lead-off batter Eddie Artnak, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains loomed brilliantly over the right field in a picturesque setting worthy of the game to unfold. At stake, completion of an undefeated season for the Tigers, or conversely, a profound season closeout for the Brewers should they secure the only win over the Tigers this season. The performances of both teams did not disappoint.

The Tigers opened scoring in the first inning with an RBI ground-out down the right field line by Marlow Ellison, scoring one run. Great pitching and fielding by both teams kept the score 1-0 in favor of the Tigers through the second inning. The Tigers added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after both Harlan Bartlett and Greyson Lowe walked and then scored on two outstanding plays to steal home.

Again, following solid pitching by Finley Harrison in relief for the Brewers and starter Greyson Lowe for the Tigers, the score remained 3-0 through the top of the fourth inning. However, the Brewers battled back strongly and tied the game in the bottom of the fourth to force an extra inning thanks to a single by Henry Rodarte scoring 2 runs and a double by Finley Harrison scoring 1 run. The Tigers once again took the lead in the top of the fifth inning after Henry Lindsay walked, Max Zadina grounded out (RBI), and Travis Gilbertson singled, each scoring one run. Harlan Bartlett entered the game in relief for the Tigers in the bottom of the fifth inning and tossed three strikeouts for a scoreless final inning of ball. Behind strong pitching performances from Greyson Lowe and Harlan Bartlett, the Tigers secured a 6-3 victory over the Brewers as well as an undefeated season with a final record of 10-0-1.

The Tigers garnered 4 hits in the game led by Travis Gilbertson with two hits in two at bats. Eddie Artnak, Marlow Ellison, Henry Lindsay, Travis Gilbertson, Greyson Lowe, and Harlan Bartlett each stole multiple bases for the Tigers, who tallied a total of 24 stolen bases for the game. Greyson Lowe led the team with 66 pitches, 43 total strikes, and 10 strikeouts, giving up four hits and three runs over four innings, while walking only one. Harlan Bartlett pitched one inning surrendering zero hits, striking out three, and walking none.

The Brewers accumulated 4 hits in the game led by Finley Harrison with two hits in tow at bats. Henry Rodarte and Finley Harrison were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for the Brewers. Constantine Gallegos, Henry Rodarte, and Finley Harrison each stole multiple bases for the Brewers, who amassed a total of 9 stolen bases for the game. Henry Rodarte led the team with 75 pitches, 37 total strikes, and 6 strikeouts, giving up three hits and three runs over 2.2 innings, while walking only five. Finley Harrison pitched 2.1 innings in relief surrendering three runs on one hit with six strikeouts and seven walks.

It was an exciting game that delivered on strong performances from each team both on the mound and in the field, said Tigers coach Shawn Lowe. I am most proud of how our players were able to maintain a strong mindset and consistent play throughout a short, but intense baseball season.

Every player on both teams competed at the highest level and gave their best effort over the entire five innings of the game, said Brewers Coach Dave Reass. We left everything out on the field tonight and there is nothing more rewarding for a coach than to see players closeout a season in such an admirable fashion.
