Longtime reporter Kirsten Laskey has been promoted to managing editor of the Los Alamos Daily Post. Laskey began writing for the Post on a part-time basis in 2012. She joined the news team full time in January 2017, primarily covering County government. She also covers other beats, including the schools, businesses, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and writes reviews of local productions.

Kirsten is trustworthy, discreet, smart, experienced, and kind – exactly the type of person deserving of this promotion.

“The Post is the Official Newspaper of Record in Los Alamos County, and working for this newspaper is a joy,” Laskey said. “My colleagues are wonderful to work with and I certainly couldn’t ask for a better boss … my publisher Carol Clark has taught me so much about ethics in journalism and is my role model for not only how to be a good reporter but also how to work with and serve our readers.”

Laskey first discovered her passion for journalism in her senior year of high school when she began writing for her school paper.

“The very first story I did was on my psychology class,” she said. “I was immediately hooked! Now to work at the Post and be promoted to managing editor is extra special.”

During her more than eight years working at the Post, Laskey has had the opportunity to interact with people from many walks of life.

“I always love meeting new people and enjoy promoting and honoring their achievements, their work, and little bits of their lives,” she said. “It is a real privilege when someone shares their stories with me and allows me to share their stories with our readers.”

Along with her love of writing, Laskey is an avid world traveler. She has visited Greece, Turkey, Spain, Italy, England, France, Germany, Austria, Hungry, Switzerland, Cuba, Brazil, South Africa, Tanzania, Mauritius, India, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Japan, Ecuador, Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Mexico, Argentina, Antarctica and spent time last fall in Iceland.

Born in Baton Rouge, La., Laskey attended Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo., where she earned a degree in English.
