PEEC News:

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC), in partnership with Bee City Los Alamos, invites the community to a special free screening of the acclaimed documentary My Garden of a Thousand Bees from 6–7 p.m., Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Los Alamos Nature Center Planetarium.

This event is generously sponsored by Los Alamos Technical Associates (LATA), a longtime supporter of community education and environmental stewardship. Admission is free, and families are welcome (though the planetarium setting is not recommended for children under 4).

This visually stunning 53-minute film, produced by renowned wildlife filmmaker Martin Dohrn, offers an extraordinary peek into the world of pollinators, as seen through the lens of one small backyard garden. Filmed during the COVID-19 lockdown, Dohrn captures the behavior and personalities of more than 60 species of bees using custom lenses and unmatched patience. From Britain’s largest bumblebees to minute scissor bees, viewers will come face-to-face with the fascinating lives of creatures often overlooked but vital to ecosystems across the globe.

This screening is part of Bee City Los Alamos’ ongoing mission to promote awareness and protection of native pollinators. Attendees will learn how even the smallest green spaces can become havens for bees and other pollinators, and how individuals can support these essential creatures in their own yards and neighborhoods.
