Daily Postcard: Violet-Green Swallow Perched On Bare Branch At Edge Of Canyon Rim Trail

Daily Postcard: Violet-green Swallow perched on the edge of the Canyon Rim Trail in White Rock, near Kimberly. Although these swallows do perch, they are most often seen in flight. All About Birds calls them ‘aerial insectivores which perform acrobatic stunts over lakes and streams high in the sky in search of flying insects.’ They may look dark at first but with good lighting, one can see their green backs and purple rumps.
