  • Lab Improves Efficiency As Part Of Supply Chain Management Center

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has saved $426 million — almost one quarter — of the Supply Chain Management Center’s (SCMC) lifetime savings of $2 billion.

Established in 2006, the SCMC simplifies the buying process for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management and National Nuclear Security Administration prime contractors. By leveraging a combined $7 billion in annual spending, the center is able to negotiate prices, cut costs and reduce the duplication of efforts across the complex.

The program improves the efficiency of the contracting process and saves taxpayer dollars.

The Laboratory’s contributions to the program are thanks in part to three employees who steward its participation. Brooks Baldwin, Yvonne Gonzales and Gian Chavez were honored April 16 by the Kansas City National Security Campus for their active roles in the DOE strategic sourcing initiative.

“The Supply Chain Management Center is an important part of the Lab’s procurement strategy,” Baldwin said. “I’m proud of the contributions our team has made.”

SCMC Senior Director Scott Bissen said, “Collaboration is key. This achievement is proof of what happens when prime contractors work together for the benefit of the enterprise.”
