The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) invites nature lovers to enjoy the beauty of summer blooms during a Wildflower Walk from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Monday, July 21. This easy, guided outing will be led by local botanist and PEEC founder Dr. Chick Keller, who will help participants identify a variety of native wildflowers found in the Los Alamos area.
The location for the walk will be selected shortly before the event to ensure the group visits a site where flowers are in peak bloom. Participants will meet at the Los Alamos Nature Center to check in before carpooling to the chosen trailhead.
This walk is ideal for beginners and experienced plant enthusiasts alike who want to deepen their appreciation for the region’s floral diversity. Attendance is free, but advance registration is required, as space is limited.
About the Presenter:
Dr. Chick Keller has been part of the Los Alamos community since 1967 and is one of the founding members of PEEC. He served as Director of the University of California’s Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics at LANL for over a decade and is the founder of the Jemez Mountain Herbarium, which houses over 1,400 plant specimens.
Keller continues to share his expertise and enthusiasm for the region’s native plants through public walks, talks, and stewardship.
Note: Participants will carpool from the nature center to the trailhead.
