LESC News:
LAS VEGAS — The Legislative Education Study Committee (LESC) will meet in Las Vegas at New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) July 23-25.
Wednesday, July 23, the committee is scheduled to hear an update on the public education reform fund (PERF), policy recommendations made by an artificial intelligence (AI) working group convened by LESC staff in response to a legislatively requested memorial, and an update on teacher preparation from NMHU.
Thursday, July 24, LESC staff, in partnership with the Public Education Department (PED) and the state’s Math and Science Advisory Council, will present policy options to improve math. The committee will also hear an update on high-impact tutoring.
Additionally, staff from the Legislative Finance Committee (LFC), will review a recent program evaluation on prekindergarten quality and educational outcomes. The Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) will also be sharing information about an early childhood workforce wage and salary study recently completed.
Friday, July 25, LESC staff, alongside PED staff, a Public Education Commission (PEC) member, and Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) will brief the committee on charter school governance and support. Lastly, LESC staff will provide updates on the Martinez-Yazzie lawsuit and federal funding.
