Los Alamos native and 2010 Los Alamos High School graduate Song Freedom Fields knows a thing or two about healing and finding a purpose in life.

A Modern Curandera Medicine Woman and founder of Integrative Fields of Medicine, Freedom Fields has used her expertise to help people spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically reclaim their lives.

Now, she is sharing her knowledge in a different format: a book. Freedom Fields is one of 31 authors who have contributed to an anthology titled Whispers of the Soul: Stories of Resilience, Awakening and the Power of Healing from Within. On launch day, it quickly became an international best-seller in four countries: the U.S., Canada, Australia and the U.K. The anthology can be purchased at the book signing event 6-8 p.m. Aug. 4 at SALA Event Center. Freedom Fields said Samizdat Bookstore and Teahouse and other local businesses also plan to carry copies of the book in addition to Amazon.

Her piece focuses on her healing journey. Freedom Fields said she suffered from several different diseases and at age 24 was close to losing her life. She wrote in the anthology how she chose to live and how she fully recovered.

According to Freedom Fields’ website, she was born with a rare syndrome and had cancer at five months old. At 19, she developed five kidney diseases over five years. Freedom Fields said she was told she would be lucky if she reached age 30.

As a result, she said she decided to take a different approach and “heal my body by turning inward and using natural modalities.”

It was a significant discovery. Up until that point, Freedom Fields said she was a “diligent patient” doing everything she was required to do but still suffered from her various health problems.

“I struggled to understand why I am doing what I am supposed to be doing, but I was still sick,” she said. “I was doing all the things I should be doing. I realized that I was missing a giant part of who I am, which is my soul.”

As result, Freedom Fields said, “I started embarking on this path of holistic healing. It just became more and more clear that this is who I am.”

She added that through her work and the stories included in the anthology, “I would hope people can tune into their truth. That they can also be inspired by who they are, where they came from, and why they are here.”

According to her website, Freedom Fields exercised mindfulness, energy healing, indigenous medicine. She also became certified in Native Medicine, NLP Coaching, Reiki Mastery, Sound Healing and other modalities.

Not only did this equip her to help others heal but it allowed her to achieve a major milestone. In 2022, Freedom Fields was alive, thriving and celebrated 30 years being cancer-free.

On top of her certifications, Freedom Fields founded Integrative Fields of Medicine.

According to her website, this is a customized approach to healing that combines ancient, indigenous and natural healing modalities with modern techniques and neuroscience. Freedom Fields works with patients to align their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies by identifying root causes and restoring health, vitality and flow.

“There are keys to returning to alignment,” Freedom Fields said. “These keys are authenticity, acceptance, abilities, accountability and authority.”

She emphasized that it is not a one-size-fits-all approach to healing with just one modality utilized. It takes a holistic approach to heal.

She explained she became a part of the Life Changing Energy community after taking a Sound Healing course with Vickie Gould, a healing practitioner who has created a huge international community. Freedom Fields became certified in Gould’s program four years ago.

Freedom Fields offers private sessions to patrons far and wide in remote sessions to keep her practice expansive and accessible. She offers three types of sessions: Spiritual Coaching and Counseling, Intuitive Energy Healing, and Integrative Fields of Medicine sessions. In addition, she offers an intensive 12-week LEAP Program that includes all session types, a skills training course, and community that helps participants rapidly transform their lives.
