Los Alamos Public Schools To Host Informational Meeting For Potential School Board Candidates Aug. 18

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools will host an informational meeting for potential School Board candidates at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, in the School Boardroom at 2075 Trinity Drive.

Los Alamos County Clerk Michael Rodondo will open the meeting by providing information about the candidate filing process and campaign requirements. Former and current school board members will then host a question-and-answer session for potential candidates to learn more about school board roles and responsibilities.

Two seats for the Los Alamos Public Schools School Board will be on the ballot this November.

Seats held by Ellen Specter, District 1, and Ryan Adams, District 2, are open. Both positions are for four-year terms. LAPS districts may be viewed here

Candidate Filing Day is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Municipal Building, 1000 Central Ave. Click here for more information about Elections and Filing Day, or contact the County Clerk’s office at 505.662.8010.

In addition, the Office of the New Mexico Secretary of State is offering virtual trainings to guide candidates through the election process. This is for anyone thinking about running for an office that will appear on the regular local election ballot, including local school board positions.

These trainings will cover everything candidates need to know about how to qualify for the ballot and how to file required reports during their candidacy. Trainings will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, and at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7. Interested participants only need to RSVP for one session.

To RSVP to either of these trainings, email BC Nguyen at bc.nguyen@sos.nm.gov. The training link will be sent out in July to all who have submitted their RSVP.

Early voting runs Oct. 7 through Nov. 1, 2025. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025.
