Second Sunday Forum: Figures On A Landscape – Running The Hardrock 100 Mile Endurance Run In Colorado’s San Juan Mountains

Unitarian Church News:

The public is invited to attend the Second Sunday Forum at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos, starting at noon on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 1738 North Sage St.

The 30th running of the Hardrock 100 Mile Endurance Run took place  July 11-12 in the high mountains around Silverton, Colo. David Coblentz has been involved with this event for more than 20 years and has finished 13 times.

What does it take to run 100 miles through those mountains? Perhaps of even greater interest is the motivation for coming back for more.

Coblentz will discuss the logistics of running ultra-long distances in the mountains, the training required, what occurs during the event (despite all the preparation and training), and the strong community that has developed around this race. He will also discuss safety and how the sport has changed over the last 20 years.

The Second Sunday Forum program endeavors to educate the public about issues that affect the community and to provide opportunities for exploration.
