ALCALDE – Los Luceros Historic Site celebrates the changing season and Northern New Mexico’s rich culture and heritage, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 21, at Fall Festival – its largest event of the year.
The annual Fall Festival features a variety of hands-on activities for visitors of all ages. Site staff will lead art and craft activities. Children’s book authors will read stories and sign books. Special performances will be offered by Moving Arts Española and musician Martin Martinez from Taos. The New Mexico Wildlife Center will lead a wildlife demonstration.
In addition, the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs Wonders on Wheels mobile museum will be at the event, touring the exhibit “Eight Sites, One History: Explore the Past at New Mexico Historic Sites”, the Bradbury Science Center education truck will be open for exploration, and the New Mexico Office of Archaeological Studies will lead hands-on activities.
“We are thrilled to welcome back old and new friends this year for a very family-oriented event,” Site Manager Michelle Zupan said. “Martin Martinez of Taos is a talented musician who has been interested in playing the Festival for a while, and Moving Arts Española has been performing here for a number of years and always bring a little something special to the Festival.”
Visitors can support local artisans and vendors throughout the historic district and enjoy food from vendors including Fusion Tacos, Vigilante Pizza, and LocCo Dogs. Los Luceros Historic Site buildings will also be open for people to walk through, and people can visit with the Navajo-Churro sheep, donkeys, and goats living on the farm.
Admission to Los Luceros Fall Festival is $10 for adults and $5 for children 16 and younger. Tickets are available for purchase online at my.nmculture.org/44496/48788. Free admission to Tribal members, New Mexico disabled veterans, New Mexico foster families, Museum of New Mexico Foundation members, Amigos of Los Luceros members, and DCA staff/family is offered at the visitor center.
