Rio Arriba County Emergency Services has announced that the Rio del Oso Bridge near US Highway 84 has re-opened after being closed Wednesday afternoon and overnight for evaluation.

The bridge was closed in both directions after an inspector with New Mexico Department of Transportation discovered damage that compromised the integrity of the bridge. It is NMDOT’s understanding that the damage was caused by the contractor during repair construction.

NMDOT staff evaluated the bridge and the extent of damage. A detour was in place and signage was posted until the bridge was re-opened this morning.
