The New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary has announced that Alex Traube has been selected as the fourth recipient of the prestigious artist-in-residence program. Traube will begin his residency from June 2 to June 30, 2024. 

Traube, an accomplished photographer and educator with deep roots in New Mexico, will lead the residency project titled “Family Photos / Fotos de Familias”. This initiative celebrates the diverse family life in New Mexico, capturing traditional and self-defined family portraits. Traube invites New Mexico families to participate in this unique project at NMMOA Vladem Contemporary.

Event: Family Photos / Fotos de Familias 

11 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 2, June 9, June 16, and June 23, 2024 at New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary, 404 Montezuma Ave, Santa Fe.

Families can have their portraits taken for free. No appointments are necessary. Traditional, blended, and self-defined families are all welcome. The first hundred participants will receive an individual Museum of New Mexico day pass, courtesy of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation. 

About Alex Traube

Born in New York City to a Hungarian Jewish father and Latina mother from New York and Mexico City, Alex Traube’s work often reflects his rich cultural heritage and family memories. Traube’s journey in photography began at American University and continued with a master’s degree from Ohio University. He studied under the renowned photographer Minor White and served as Associate Director at the Center for Photographic Studies in Louisville, where he contributed significantly to the Center’s publishing program and directed a photography lecture series at the Speed Museum.

This residency is funded by a generous grant from the Frederick Hammersley Fund for the Arts at the Albuquerque Community Foundation and hosted by the New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary.
