‘American Anxiety’ Forum At Unitarian Church Aug. 23

COMMUNITY News:

The Unitarian Church of Los Alamos, located at 1738 North Sage Street, is pleased to invite the public to a free educational presentation at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23. This forum is titled, “American Anxiety”, and will be presented by Dr Donald A. Neeper, a physicist retired from LANL. Cookies and lemonade will be served after.

This timely talk examines how our national polarization emerges from our everyday interactions, with consequences that run deeper than competitive politics. Don uses illustrations to look at symptoms of American Anxiety, and to see what’s different from 30, 60, or 80 years ago. Today’s polarization and our governmental dysfunctions can be understood by viewing society as a complex system with group properties and emergent group behaviors. Don will explore what we can do as individuals to alter the worrisome developments in America.

For a decade, Dr. Neeper maintained a blog that examined societal changes as group behaviors of a complex system. Using ordinary language, his new book is entitled “American Anxiety and what you can do about it”.
