A plastic anti-nuke sign placed illegally Friday at the entrance to Los Alamos has been removed. The sign was placed on county property without the owner obtaining a permit. Section 16-417, subsection B of the County Municipal Code details penalties for signs placed illegally on public property. ‘Any sign installed or placed on public property, except in conformance with the requirements of this section … shall be forfeited to the public and subject to confiscation. In addition to other remedies under this article, the county shall have the right to recover from the person placing such a sign the full cost of removal and disposal of the sign.’ The ordinance further states that the sign owner has 3 business days from the time his/her sign was confiscated to retrieve it before it’s disposed of – this sign is being housed at the police station at 2500 Trinity Dr. Photo by Carol A.
