SALA Updates Its Movie Lineup And Membership Benefits

SALA has some significant updates to share to its movie schedule and membership benefits for the month of August. Due to the overwhelming success of ticket sales in Los Alamos, Universal Pictures is pressuring SALA to extend the screening of “Oppenheimer” for an additional week. As a result, “Oppenheimer” will now be showing Thursday, Aug. 3 until Thursday, Aug. 17.

The community is invited to join Los Alamos County and other partnering organizations on Aug.  11-13 for exhibits, the Friday Night Concert, parade, fair at Ashley Pond Park, Arts & Crafts Fair at Fuller Lodge, Rodeo at Brewer Arena and much more!

County Fair exhibits, organized by the NMSU Co-operative Extension office will kick off the weekend with a special needs session for viewing the exhibits on Friday, Aug. 11 at the Mesa Public Library, from 4-5 p.m. and will open 5-8 p.m. for the general public.

Mesa Public Library Hosts Second Annual Atomicon Aug. 5

Mesa Public Library will present the second annual Atomicon: a Comic-Con-inspired event for all ages 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5.

The first Atomicon was held at Mesa Public Library last year in July. An estimated 1,500 fans attended the inaugural event. An agave plant in full bloom Saturday afternoon at a residence on Sierra Vista in White Rock. Agave plants are succulents with large leaves that end in pointy tips. Agaves have more than 250 species in the agave genus. Large specimens can grow to 10 feet or more in height and width, and smaller species can be dish-sized. A few agave species have soft leaves and no spines. Agave grows best in rocky, sandy, well-drained soil in full sun. SANTA FE — The Santa Fe Opera (SFO) has announced that baritone Luke Sutliff will perform the title role in Orfeo on opening night, (tonight) Saturday, July 29. Sutliff steps in for tenor Rolando Villazón who sustained a minor injury during the final dress rehearsal on July 27 and has been prescribed four days of rest.
