Art In Public Places Board Seeks Three New Members

The Art in Public Places (APP) Board is seeking community members committed to enhancing public spaces to help shape the artistic landscape of Los Alamos County.
Three board positions are coming open.
This offers a unique opportunity for new board members to influence how art enhances public spaces and enriches this community.
Details:
- Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2026;
- Interviews to be held February 2026; and
- New terms begin March 25, 2026.
Who can apply?
- Los Alamos County residents who are not employed by the County and do not hold public office are eligible.

Unveiling And Reception For New Mural Commemorating The Centennial Of Route 66 Jan. 4 At New Mexico History Museum

A mural commemorating the Route 66 Centennial by New Mexico artist Molly Mendenhall will be unveiled Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, at an opening reception in the lobby of the New Mexico History Museum (NMHM).
The artist will attend the event and talk about the mural painting process and her design. Visitors can take photos of the vibrant mural, “Mother Road Coming into Color,” which illustrates a transition from a sepia-washed and stippled (small dotted) 1930’s scene to a modern vision of Albuquerque coming into color in the distance.
