The ties are strong when you become a member of the senior centers in Los Alamos and White Rock.

Lilia Holcomb is one senior who is “nifty in her nineties” and as creative as ever. She was born in 1927 and grew up on a farm. Her family was poor and so little money allowed creativity to bloom as Holcomb found unique ways to entertain herself.

Los Alamos WinterFest 2020, with the theme “Home For the Holidays,” will be different this year and run Friday, Dec. 4 to Sunday Dec. 6.

Due to COVID-19 and the current Public Health Orders, the popular Holiday Lights Parade will be replaced with a Holiday Lights Display 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. This is a drive-through event where cars can safely view some festive floats and decorated cars parked in the Central Park Square North Parking lot, for a “reverse parade” concept.

Los Alamos Creative District is hosting a WinterFest “Ugly Holiday Sweater” Face Mask Decorating Contest and giving away cloth face masks that serve as blank canvases for creativity.

 It is free to participate, and awards will be given out to the top three winners in three categories:
