Roadside Art: Canoes Spotted On Rocky Hillside

Row, row, row your boat … wait, where’s the water? Three canoes have been placed on a rocky hillside just outside of Terlingua, Texas. I do not know who placed them or why they are there but they make me smile every time I see them. The closest water is the Rio Grande, which is several miles to the south of the canoes. Daily Postcard: Uphill Icicles Form At Los Alamos Home

Daily Postcard: Icicles spotted Tuesday pointing uphill on the roof of a residence on Rim Road in Los Alamos. They formed when the snow on the roof of the front porch started slipping off, and the temperature got colder, so the icicles didn’t break off as the snow continued to slide and curl inward. Daily Postcard: Cooper’s Hawk Spotted Near Bird Feeder

Daily Postcard: A Cooper’s hawk is spotted Monday near bird feeders at a residence in White Rock. Among the bird world’s most skillful fliers, Cooper’s hawks are common woodland hawks that tear through cluttered tree canopies in high speed pursuit of other birds. If you put out seed for birds in your backyard, there’s a chance you’ll also attract the attention of a Cooper’s hawk. While catching smaller birds is just doing what comes naturally for a Cooper’s hawk, many of us would prefer not to share the responsibility for the deaths. If a Cooper’s hawk takes up residence in your yard, you can take Read More

Daily Postcard: ‘Super Snow Moon’

Daily Postcard: The ‘Super Snow Moon’ viewed through branches of a tree early Saturday morning in White Rock. This moon was at its brightest Sunday, Feb. 9 and is the first supermoon of the year. The large-looking full moon will happen three times this year. It happens as the moon — on its elliptical orbit — is at its closest point to Earth making it appear nearly 14 percent larger than usual. The next supermoon will appear March 9 and is called the ‘Super Worm Moon’ and the third will happen April 7 and be called a ‘Super Pink Moon’. Photo by Nancy Ann Hibbs

Roadside Art: World’s Smallest Target Found In Texas

A tiny decaying cinder block building located between Marathon, Texas and Alpine, Texas is now Target Marathon. The building was probably used by the railroad in the past as tracks sit just a few feet behind the structure. It is not known who created the miniature Target, which comes with a red shopping cart out in front. It was first seen in 2016. The world’s smallest Target sits alongside U.S. Highway 90 between the roadway and the train tracks. A little bit of mystery but a project sure to bring a smile to visitors traveling this stretch of highway in west Texas. Photo by Gary Warren/ladailypost.com
