“Tick, Tick…Boom!” at LALT stole my heart. I wasn’t really expecting it. The tragic story of the death at age 35, of author-composer-lyricist writer Jonathan Larson made me a little scared of this autobiographical musical dramedy, written before the astounding success of “Rent”.

Would it all be tinged with the foreknowledge of what would happen Read More

Daily Postcard: Leaves Turn Color On Cherry Trees

Daily Postcard: The change of color spotted today on the cherry tree in White Rock marks the start of the fall foliage. This is the last day of summer and with the autumnal equinox a debate erupts around this time each year — and it’s not about where to sip the best apple cider or peep the finest fall foliage. It’s over the exact start date of the fall equinox, which marks the beginning of autumn. Specifically, the 2019 equinox will begin at 3:50 a.m Eastern Standard Time on Sept. 23, when at that precise moment, the sun will be directly in line with the equator. A student’s suggestion that this 13th year’s performance of The Family YMCA’s Dance of India classes center on something other than a universally known theme, got the instructor to thinking.

What should pop into the mind of instructor Alina Deshpande but a a ghost-murder mystery where the ghost makes its presence known through the tinkering of bells. It is a fitting theme for the month of October. The performance is 4 p.m. Read More
