Poetry Reading Saturday Features Native Poets

This Saturday’s poetry reading, 1 p.m. in the White Rock Branch Library, features poets from the Creative Writing programs at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe.

Poets Vivian Carroll (Cherokee), Chee Brossy (Dine), Victoria Gonzalez, ValirieSerawop (Ute), and Douglas SuanoBootes (Saponi)will read from their work. They are all students of James Thomas Stevens at IAIA, where both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Creative Writing are offered.

SANTA FE –– Santa Fe Community College’s Red Dot Gallery presents its annual Spring Exhibition featuring this year’s selection of artwork by new and emerging artists from across the state.

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs announces that the its museums and historic sites will be closed for Easter Sunday, April 16 except for the Jemez Historic Site, the Museum of Space History and the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science.

Spring is here and hummingbirds are beginning to appear around town like this Black-chinned Hummingbird spotted Sunday at a home on Barranca Mesa. Its velvety black chin is bordered by a thin strip of iridescent purple only visible when light hits it just right.
