The community is invited to attend a showing of “Two Small Pieces of Glass – The Amazing Telescope” 2-2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 7, in the Planetarium at the Los Alamos Nature Center, 2600 Canyon Road.

“Two Small Pieces of Glass – The Amazing Telescope” follows two students as they interact with a female astronomer at a local star party. LALT Parking Lot To Close For Renovations Starting June 9

COUNTY News:

Beginning Monday, June 9, access to the parking lot at the Los Alamos Little Theatre (LALT) Performing Arts Center Building at 1670 Nectar St. will be closed to the public for renovations.

Los Alamos County Public Works, Capital Projects & Facilities Division officials explain that the closure will allow a much-needed health and safety-focused renovation project to begin, aimed at improving the fire safety response time in case of emergency. The project also includes abatement of asbestos containing materials from the ceilings and flooring in the building.

Governor Expands Dolly Parton Imagination Library

STATE News:

SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed an executive order Friday to expand the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program, ensuring every New Mexico child from birth to age five has access to free monthly books delivered to their home.

The signing ceremony featured Lt. Gov. Howie Morales, Secretary Elizabeth Groginsky of the Early Childhood Education and Care Department, and local program leaders who have championed literacy efforts across the state.

Daily Postcard: This Mississippi Kite spent considerable time Thursday evening perched near the top of a tall tree on Richard Court in White Rock. According to All About Birds, these raptors are between the size of a crow and a goose and most commonly found in the Southeast and some prairies in Texas and Oklahoma. They can also be found along parts of the Rio Grande in New Mexico.
