LAHS News:

Join the Los Alamos Historical Society at 7 p.m., Oct. 30 in historic Fuller Lodge for a showing of a 1953 atomic monster movie, part of this year’s Atomic Film Series.

We can’t tell you the name of the movie here, but it’s a campy monster movie that’s a great watch for Halloween! It’s also one of the very first atomic monster movies, coming out the year before Godzilla first roared onto screens. The monster is brought to life by the talents of stop-motion master Ray Harryhausen.

United States atomic tests at the North Pole appear to have awakened a prehistoric monster frozen in the ice. Can an AEC physicist and a paleontologist convince the country that the creature is real before it attacks New York City?

The Atomic Film Series fosters discussion about the ways we continue to live with atomic legacies. Grab some fresh-popped popcorn in the lobby when you arrive, and then settle in for a great movie you won’t see anywhere else. There is a suggested donation of $5.

Learn more about the film and the Atomic Film Series at the Historical Society’s website, and @LosAlamosHistory on Facebook.

The Los Alamos Historical Society preserves, promotes, and communicates the remarkable history and inspiring stories of Los Alamos and its people for our community, for the global audience, and for future generations. We do this through the Los Alamos History Museum, the Los Alamos Historical Society Archives and Collection, publications from Bathtub Row Press, ownership and interpretation of historic buildings, educational programs, and more.
