LAPS News:
At Los Alamos Public Schools, student and staff safety comes first and Barranca Mesa Elelmentary School is the first school to practice the state-required off site evacuation drill to evaluate preparedness in the event of an emergency.
LAPS will conduct this exercise in an effort to prepare all local schools for successful reunification with parents.
The reunification exercise is 10:30 a.m. to noon Wedneday, April 3 at First Baptist Church at 2200 Diamond Dr.
The purpose of this exercise:
- Improve communication skills and ability to assure student safety;
- Quickly reunify students with families;
- Learn more about district’s preparedness when it comes to unexpected events and coordinating with supporting agencies; and
- Identify areas of strengths and areas of weakness.
Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets division will be assisting in this reunification exercise by closing off the right lane (easternmost lane) on Diamond Drive (northbound) starting at Urban and ending at 39th Street. This lane drop will allow parents/participants to park on the street and pick up their children. The left lane will remain open to traffic. Please be aware of and obey all traffic control devices, proceed slowly through this special event zone and be mindful of the traffic and pedestrians.
