Groundbreaking Ceremony At The Hill Apartments Nov. 3

The Hill Apartments, a new housing development at 121 and 141 35th St. at the intersection of 35th and Finch Street will host a Groundbreaking Ceremony at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3.
The site is the former Los Alamos Site Office, or “LASO” for Los Alamos National Laboratory. Grading of the site commenced in the Summer of 2021 and the developers are beginning the construction of the apartments.
The development was realized through the conveyance of land to Los Alamos County from the Department of Energy (DOE) for the purpose of Economic Development.

New Mexico Unemployment Rate 6.9% In September

New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.9 percent in September, down from 7.2 percent in August and down from 8.6 percent in the previous year.
The national unemployment rate in September was 4.8 percent, down from 5.2 percent in August and down from 7.8 percent in September 2020.
Total nonagricultural payroll employment grew by 25,800 jobs, or 3.3 percent, between September 2020 and September 2021. All gains came from the private sector, which was up 30,200 jobs, or 5.0 percent. The public sector was down 4,400 jobs, or 2.5 percent.

County Steering Committee Tackles Signage Standards

Work progresses on revising Chapter 16 in the Los Alamos County Code, known as the development code. Tuesday, Oct. 19, the steering committee formed to revise the code met to offer its thoughts on proposed signage standards.
The meeting, which was led by Jessica Lawlis of Dekker, Perich, Sabatini, the firm contracted to assist in the effort to revise Chapter 16, addressed what types of signs are allowed and prohibited, the permitted dimensions of signs in different districts and the regulations for sign illumination.
